Current Probe dBµV ↔ dBµA Conversion
Convert receiver dBµV readings to conductor current in dBµA using the probe transfer impedance in dBΩ.
Worked example
(Probe transfer impedance Z_T 0 dBΩ) Receiver reading 60 dBµV, Conductor current 60 dBµA, Conductor current 1000 µA
Formula
I(dBµA) = V(dBµV) − Z_T(dBΩ)
Use the Z_T value from the probe calibration certificate
How it works
A current probe turns conductor current into a voltage for the receiver; the ratio is the transfer impedance Z_T. It is used for cable current measurements such as common-mode currents on signal and communication lines or current-limit items in MIL-STD-461.
Practical tipZ_T varies with frequency, so enter the value for the actual frequency from the probe calibration certificate. The default 0 dBΩ here is only an illustrative value.
