Measured Voltage → Field Strength (dBµV/m)
Field strength in dBµV/m from receiver reading, antenna factor, cable loss, attenuator and preamp gain.
Worked example
Input: Receiver reading 40 dBµV, Antenna factor 15 dB/m, Cable loss 1.5 dB, External attenuator 0 dB, Preamp gain 0 dB
Result: Field strength 56.5 dBµV/m, Field strength 668.344 µV/m
Result: Field strength 56.5 dBµV/m, Field strength 668.344 µV/m
Formula
E = V + AF + L_cable + L_att − G_preamp
How it works
In a radiated-emission test the receiver shows a voltage. Add the antenna factor and the cable and attenuator losses, subtract the preamp gain, and you obtain the field strength that can be compared with the limit. It is the final conversion step before judging against the limit.
Practical tipLosses add, gains subtract. One wrong sign gives an error of several dB, so verify that the converted value is the same with the preamp on and off.
